Billingsley to be honored at Saturday night's football awards banquet
      Forty-one years ago, Dick Billingsley wanted to become an English teacher at Culver City High. There was only one problem. "If you were a teacher, you had to wear a coat and tie every day to work," Billingsley said. "God, I hated wearing ties. It wasn't long before I started to get into kinesiology, because that way I wouldn't have to wear one.

Oaks Christian's Jones, Marsh named top players
      Oaks Christian junior running back Malcolm Jones is the Offensive Player of the Year in the CIFSouthern Section Northwest Division for football. Cassius Marsh, another Lion junior, was named co-Defensive Player of the Year. OCHS stalwart Bill Redell is Coach of the Year.

OPHS picks co-head coaches for football
      Oak Park High has opted to hire co-head coaches for the 2009 football campaign. Dennis Stephenson and Terry Shorten will assume the top position, replacing Dick Billingsley, who stepped down after 19 years at the helm. Stephenson was the head football coach at Grace Brethren of Simi Valley from 19972004.

Oak Park hoopsters battling for TVL crown
      The Oak Park High boys' basketball squad remains in the thick of the Tri-Valley League title chase with three weeks remaining in the regular season. Oak Park entered Wednesday night's contest at Malibu with a 13-6 overall record and a 2-1 mark in league play.
