It's the center of attention Yes, the city is considering a new recreation center. All we have done so far is ask an independent consultant to objectively evaluate over 20 possible sites throughout Agoura Hills and we accepted the study. The study did list Forest Cove Park as the number one choice, but the study is merely the starting point in the process. Now is the time for the council and the public to start evaluating the choices, including getting the public input we need and want to help us make a decision. That is how it works. We always anticipated having public hearings and/ or workshops. As most of you probably know about me, I have always been a big supporter of our beautiful parks and our recreational activities. Over the years, we have provided our community with top notch recreational programs. Our recreational center provided a meeting and activity place for seniors, numerous educational classes, kids' activities and classes and many family-themed excursions. For many years we have gotten positive feedback from our community about the enjoyment they have experienced at the center. I have received dozens of emails against putting a recreation center in any park. While I support the concept of a new recreation center, and will keep an open mind, I tend to agree with those that suggest that our beautiful city parks are not the appropriate place for the new rec center. It is time to stop arguing and have the public discussion that we planned, but let's have it sooner rather than later. I am hopeful that everyone will follow our discussions and participate in our hearings. Harry Schwarz Agoura Hills Schwarz is an Agoura Hills City Council member |
