Maurer to address Calabasas
      Calabasas Mayor Mary Sue Maurer will present the 11th annual Mayor's State of the City Address on Wed., Jan. 21 in the Founders Hall at the Calabasas Library, 200 Civic Center Way, Calabasas. A reception with drinks and hors d'oeuvres will begin at 6 p.m., and the address will begin at 7 p.m.

Car hits boy on bicycle
      A student who was riding his bicycle to Medea Creek Middle School in Oak Park was hit by a car, Wed., Jan. 7 at dismissal time. The boy was not injured, said Tony Knight, superintendent of Oak Park schools. The boy apparently was riding his bike down the school's entrance driveway where a parked SUV obstructed his view.

      Firefighters responded with five engines and two ladder trucks to a blaze Sun., Jan. 10 at the Muvico movie theaters under construction at The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks. The first call went out at 4:24 p.m. with the report of smoke in the hallway.

Former trainer recognized bird from newspaper
      The front page of the Thurs., Jan. 1 Acorn , featured an amazing photograph of a red-tailed hawk taken by a reader, Joshua Lesser, of Agoura Hills. It was The Acorn's Photo of the Year. Stephanie Sayre of Agoura Hills recognized the hawk instantly as Kalypso, a juvenile redtail trapped by Sayre, an apprentice falconer, on Oct.
