Agoura offers Christmas tree disposal

By Stephanie Bertholdo bertholdo@theacorn.com

Agoura Hills sesidents have until Jan. 16 to take advantage of a Christmas tree recycling program, city officials said.

The annual tree recycling, which is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Sanitation District, is free for all residents of the city.

To take advantage of the collection program, residents are asked to place their trees in the designated green waste cart on their regularly scheduled refuse collection day.

For residents living in multifamily complexes, arrangements should be made through property management firms that handle each apartment building or condominium development. Special bins will be delivered to each complex for tree recycling.

Residents must abide by a few requirements to participate in the program:

•All trees must be cut in half before placing in a city recycle bin.

•Water containers, metal stands, ornaments, tinsel and lights must be removed.

•Flocked and fire retardant trees will also be accepted.

Waste Management/GI industries will collect and recycle all trees with the sanitation district.

For special collections or nonscheduled pickup days, call Waste Management at (800) 675-1171. For questions about the program, call Solid Waste Solutions at (805) 495-7521 or Agoura Hills City Hall at (818) 597-7300.
