Westlake Braves complete perfect season

The Westlake Braves defeated the Santa Barbara Chargers in a United Bowl championship Senior Division game.

Westlake is from the Gold Coast Youth Football League, while Santa Barbara competes in the Tri-Valley Youth Football League.

The Santa Barbara Chargers took an early 8-0 lead on their first possession with a long drive that started on their own 45-yard line.

Following the kickoff, Westlake mounted a long scoring drive that was completed with a scoring pass from quarterback Neil Uskali to running back Gianni Capri on a critical fourth down play.

On the following defensive series, Westlake linebacker Clayton Kennelly intercepted a third down pass attempt on the 40-yard line and ran it all the way back for a score to give Westlake a 14-6 lead that it would never relinquish.

Westlake's defense held again and got the ball back on its own 35-yard line. The offense then manufactured a 65-yard scoring drive that was capped off with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Uskali to slot receiver James Rodriguez, giving the Braves an 18-8 halftime lead.

Early in the third quarter, the Westlake defense, led by linemen Tony Mekari, Brennan Ray, Alex Gonzales and Oskar Goldstone, forced another punt.

Westlake's offense took possession and scored quickly on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Uskali to wideout Kyle Erickson, pushing the score to 24-8.

Jordan Pitcher caught the twopoint conversion to push the score to 26-8 in favor of Westlake.

Defensive back James Rodriguez intercepted a pass late in the third quarter, giving the Westlake offense another chance to score.

Westlake struck quickly with a 25-yard scoring strike from Uskali to Erickson—Erickson made a great catch in the back of the end zone on a fade route giving the Braves a 32-8 lead.

The game ended at 34-14.

Westlake completed the season 14-0 and won a pair of Super Bowl games.
