Increased intensity
January is chockfull of tough league games in boys' basketball

      Marmonte League boys' basketball action will resume next week, but three of the league's teams are already off to blazing starts. Last season's league champion, Simi Valley High, has come out of the gates strong by winning 10 of its first 13 games, including a pair of Marmonte contests.

Rubenstein honored at Pepperdine
      Senior outside hitter Julie Rubenstein of the Pepperdine women's volleyball team was named to the AVCA All-Pacific Region first team. This is Rubenstein's first AVCA regional honor. Rubenstein an Oaks Christian graduate from Camarillo, concluded one of the finest volleyball careers in school history.

Westlake Braves complete perfect season
      The Westlake Braves defeated the Santa Barbara Chargers in a United Bowl championship Senior Division game. Westlake is from the Gold Coast Youth Football League, while Santa Barbara competes in the Tri-Valley Youth Football League.
