International Baccalaureate provides 'rigor and relevance'

      The International Baccalaureate (IB) program will be introduced to juniors and seniors at Agoura High School next year, according to Principal Larry Misel. In the program, students at AHS will take the same classes as IB students worldwide.

Alternative elementary school to be renamed
'Mariposa' is Spanish for 'butterfly.' The school will take flight.

      The Las Virgenes Community Learning Center will change its name in the fall to Mariposa Elementary School of Global Education, said school coordinator Jeff Lough. The school started in Calabasas at A.E. Wright Middle School but moved to Sumac Elementary in Agoura Hills in September.

Ghosts of Christmas visit Viewpoint School
      HOLIDAY HAUNTS— One of the ghosts of Christmas leads Ebenezer Scrooge on a spine-tingling journey in Viewpoint School's recent production of Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol." A cast of 64 students performed in the show which was adapted for the stage by Dr. Julianne De Sal with original music composed by Bill Brendle.

      Viewpoint School qualified for the World VEX Robotics Competition scheduled for April This is the first year Viewpoint's Engineering and Robotics Team has entered the robot-building competition. More than 1,000 teams in 13 countries are participating in qualifying tournaments that will send 200 teams to the championship round in Dallas, Texas.

Price is half-off for February event
      The Oak Park High School Golf Program is selling daily grounds tickets to the Northern Trust Open for half-price at $15 each. The tickets can be used for any day of the tournament, which runs from Mon., Feb. 16 to Sun., Feb. 22.
