Rec center's proposed location an 'outrage' according to this staunch opponent

To say I am absolutely appalled by the proposed destruction of Forest Cove Park does not do my feelings justice. This outrage totally betrays the residents of Oak View Ranch and Chateau Homes as well as other Agoura Hills residents who use and appreciate the park exactly the way it is.

Have any of you ever walked to the highest point on the park, sat down and taken in the beautiful vista, heard the restorative peace and quiet, watched as billowy white clouds floated overhead, seen the bunnies appear at twilight to nibble the grass, observed the dogs enjoying being out of their fenced yards, laughed at the toddlers whose legs can barely keep up them as they run gleefully down the hills?

These are just a few of the many reasons why it should not be torn down and turned into a parking lot.

It is inconceivable that we lose those beautiful hills. This is Agoura Hills, is it not?

The increase in traffic in our neighborhood is also an important consideration. There's quite enough currently.

I attend classes at the rec center, go on trips and attend various functions. For 13 years my husband has led a very successful current events discussion group. We are definitely for having a rec center, but this is the wrong place for it.

I recently read in The Acorn "For the record," "The Agoura Hills acquisition of land near Yerba Buena Elementary School adds 30 percent to the city's parkland inventory, not its open space inventory."

This is where the rec center should be built, or perhaps somewhere on Agoura Road if there is some space left from the construction of the ubiquitous office buildings.

Just not here, not in our park, please. It is as wrong as a broken promise, plain and simple. Janice M. Johnson Agoura Hills
