Grazing into the future for a new park

      Goats and sheep will play a role in helping Westlake Village and the Triunfo YMCA get started on their new 30-acre park. On Dec. 10, the City Council voted 31 to approve an agreement with the California Department of Fish and Game for preliminary site clearing of the proposed Westlake Village Community Park.

Community center director reaches out to residents

      From the outside the Oak Park Community Center may look quiet, but there is a tremendous amount of activity and energy inside. Fifty different programs and classes as diverse as exercise, writing, and arts and crafts are offered for all ages, tots to seniors.

      Toastmasters Voice Ambassadors meet from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wed., Dec. 31 in the Conejo Valley Room, One Baxter Way, Westlake Village. Park to the right of the flagpole area and enter through the right entry door. The club promotes good communication and leadership skills.

      The Conejo Valley Audubon Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Mon., Jan. 5 at the Western Foundation for Vertebrate Zoology, 439 Calle San Pablo, Camarillo. Johyn Krist, chief executive of the Farm Bureau of Ventura County, will be the guest speaker.

Foundation recognizes volunteers
      Fiftythree residents recently received the President's Volunteer Service Awards for volunteering a minimum of 100 hours in 2008 with the Hogan Family Foundation at the foundation's Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks and at Rancho St. Francis in Hidden Hills and Camarillo.
