Local football standouts to meet on college gridiron

Two of the most productive Marmonte League football players in recent memory will be on opposite sidelines Saturday at 7 p.m. when the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks do battle with the Arizona State Sun Devils at Tempe, Ariz.

Arizona State is led by senior quarterback Rudy Carpenter, who played for both Newbury Park and Westlake.

Northern Arizona's top running back is junior Alex Henderson, a Calabasas grad.

Carpenter has started 31 consecutive games for ASU, and his team enters the contest ranked 15th in the Associated Press preseason top 25 poll.

Henderson has rushed for 1,913 yards and scored 14 touchdowns during his first two seasons with the Lumberjacks.

Other area athletes involved include ASU backup quarterback Samson Szakacsy (Camarillo), as well as NAU's Conrad Meadows (Moorpark) and Anthony Evans (Moorpark College).
