Help count the species during Bio Blitz

The Santa Monica Mountains BioBlitz, sponsored by the National Geographic Society and the National Park Service, will be held from noon Fri., May 30 to noon Sat., May 31. Base camp will be Paramount Ranch, 30401 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills.

Teams of scientists, naturalists, community leaders, students and the public will join forces to inventory as many living organisms in the Santa Monica Mountains as possible in 24 hours. The purpose of the event is to increase awareness of the diverse species in the area and how to better understand the natural environment.

Following the species count will be a Celebrate Biodiversity Festival from 1 to 6 p.m. Sat., May 31 with live entertainment, music by the Banana Slug String Band, talks, displays and opportunities to explore the park and to talk with scientists.

Registration for the BioBlitz is required.
