New life to Agoura Hills tree controversy

LESLIE HAUKOOS/Acorn Newspapers BRANCH OFFICE- Signs call attention to the plight of an oak tree at the corner of Liberty Canyon and Agoura roads in Agoura Hills where new office building construction is being planned. Concern about the community's tree population reached a fever pitch earlier this month when a developer cut down a black walnut tree at potential construction site in Old Agoura. There are four native species of protected oak trees found in Agoura Hills: valley oak, coast live oak, scrub oak and coastal scrub oak. City officials say they conduct a careful planning process before allowing developers to cut down trees.
