Happy Mother's Day 2008
As a reading instructor, she imparted a love of reading and learning to her three grandsons: Alex, Michael and Peter. She helped the children write their first "books" and acted in their movie productions with Grandpa Len. We are happy Judy brings us along as she soars through life with curiosity, joy and a passion for living. Karen Kertzner Calabasas My mom would treat our families to a week in Big Bear every year. She loved the mountains and the flowers that grow there. She would happily breathe in the air for the pine scent, which she so treasured, as we climbed up the mountain, and again as we came down, bidding farewell until the next year. We miss her on our yearly Big Bear treks, remembering the joy these mountain trips gave to her and to us with her. Eileen O'Neill West Hills There are many words that I could use to describe my mom. Some of these words include thoughtful, loving, caring, beautiful, nice, smart, helpful, empathetic, courageous and many, many more.
My mom is very special to me. She gives me strength. She builds me up. She brings me courage when I am down. My mom drives me everywhere I need to be, even if it doesn't fit in her schedule. My mom, Lisa, is special to me for so many reasons. She is always kind and understanding if something goes wrong. She has such high expectations of me, and that has helped me so much with school, piano, religious school and everything else that goes on in my life. She is such an amazing mom. She supports me in everything that I do. She has gone to every performance that I have ever been in and gives me the confidence to do things that I sometimes don't even think are possible. She drives us to school and to all the other places we have to go, like our sports games. She always helps us with our homework, especially our school projects. My mom is outrageous. She can make me happy any day. My mom is a hero. She would risk her life to save me if I was in any danger. She's flexible. She can't do the splits, but she will always care for me. She knows I love having a private driver. She is always capable of picking me up and dropping me off at places. My mom is very special to me. Every day she helps me and my family with many things. She is a real hardworking mom. Every morning she gets up at 5:30 a.m., gets ready for the day; she packs me and my brother lunches for school, and then drives to work (she's a kindergarten school teacher). Then after all that hard work at school, she still comes home happy and in a good mood and then makes our family some dinner. My mom is the most caring mom in the whole world even when she is busy. About a year after she remodeled the home, my wife and I got unexpectedly pregnant. When she came out to visit the new addition to our family, she immediately fell in love and bonded with little Nick. She understood that we had no family close by and that we needed help raising the little guy. Two months later she sacrificed her dream by selling her home and moving to California to help raise her grandson. Today, her and her sister LuLu are a very important part of our lives. My mother doesn't remember her birth date or how old she will be. However, my mother's best friend, Louise, will remember- and Louise will call my mother as she has done for decades. Louise and my mother lived across the street from each other in a small town in Montana. After high school, these friends went to the University of Minnesota, joined the same sorority. Then they got married, had children and exchanged Christmas cards. Now I will dial the phone numbers so these old friends continue to connect- in May and January- on their birthdays. She was the one who taught me how to do yoga. It all started one day when I saw my mom doing yoga on a big blue mat. "How do you do that?" I asked. Then she showed me how. First she taught me a bridge. She also taught me how to do my homework. She always says homework before playing. So I do my homework speedy quick, then I can play. My mom taught me many things. Another thing I learned from my mom is that life isn't always fair. She keeps telling me to live with what I have. My mom has been there for me for all eight years of my life. When I was about to learn I was so excited. It was hard at first, but I got the hang of it. So then I kept trying, and then I got it. Unfortunately, I crashed into a big bush. Next, she taught me how to walk. It was very fun to first walk; like the bike I kept trying, and I got it. So then I was walking a lot, and then I ran into a wall. She's the best! Will Calabasas I learned all the things I need to know from my mommy. First she taught me how to be polite and say "please" and "thank you": "Please" if I want something and "Thank you" after I get the thing the person offers. Next she taught me life isn't always fair. For example, I want a cookie and mommy doesn't have money- she can't buy it, that's final. Finally, my mom taught me difficult words- she is a spelling bee champion! She rules. Suraj West Hills My mom is the best. She taught me to try your best in everything. Also, to study hard and be responsible about your work. In baseball, she's taught me to never give up. She also taught me that different parents have different rules, and they decide what's best for their child. I like that my mom helps at school, and it's fun to see here there. She's taught me that helping schools are important. Lastly, she's taught me to live healthy and happy. Jared Woodland Hills I love my mom a whole lot. She has taught me that I am special and that I matter. She also has taught me that I have a beautiful smile. Also, she has taught me to never give up on what you want. After school, I go right to the kitchen and make something, thanks to her. She's great! Jonathan Woodland Hills I think my mom is magnificent; she is very good at raising me. My mom taught me how to use a credit card. I used to always ask her, "Why is a credit card as good as money?" I was always so curious until she told me. Now I will know how to use it. Also, she taught me how you build a house. It's very interesting how you build houses. She told me all the things you use and the materials to make one. Matthew Calabasas I think my mom is totally cool because she taught me how to bake yummy cupcakes. When I was 3 my mommy asked, "Do you want to make cupcakes?" I said, "Okay! But I don't know how to." She said that she would teach me, and I was so happy. My mom also taught me how to sing, and look at me now. I wrote my own song about a girl named Annie. As you can see, my mom taught me everything I need to know and way more. Elizabeth Preston Calabasas I think my mommy is the greatest mom in the world. She has a big heart. She teaches many things. My mommy taught me life is fair and that everything will even out. She has also taught me that I can do anything if I put my mind to it. I have found out I can do so many things, all thanks to her. Mom turned 75 last August. She is a fabulous cook and cooks every day and shares meals with all of us. Her home in Westlake Village is always sparkling clean. She is a part-time nanny to four young children who live nearby, and they, too, have come to claim her as part of their family. I am completely in awe and know that I could never fill her shoes. Kim Reich Westlake Village I've grown up in both the city and the suburbs seeing my friends' parents as "happily married" and always thought that that was how adults were supposed to be. In my case, my parents were divorced when I was 5 years old, and I was raised in the most part by my mom. In this, I was able to experience real strength. I was able to watch my mom work every single day to support her two children and to work even harder to move my sister and me into the suburbs so that we could receive a good education and grow up in a safe environment. She would do anything for me to the extent of even risking her life for me. I feel her support in all that I do. When I play soccer, she goes to all my games and helps me attain my goals. The title of "The World's Best Mom" goes to my mom every second of every day. I love my mom and nothing, nothing will ever change that. One example is when my dog had to be put down. Later that night she made me pancakes and slept in my bed with me so I wouldn't feel alone all night. When I was 6, I was diagnosed with diabetes, and for five years she's been helping me to take care of it. She helps me take shots, draw insulin, use my pump and test my blood sugar. Because of her hard work I can now do it by myself. At age 8, I was diagnosed with celiac disease. That's when people can't eat wheat, barley, rye, oats and some flavorings and food starches. When she cooks she dances to the stove or the oven or wherever she has to go while cooking. When you say something out loud to her, she'll repeat it but into a song.
