Jewish academy launches its spring semester

The Conejo Jewish Academy will start its spring semester on Tues., May 6 at 30345 Canwood St. in Agoura Hills.

The academy is in its fourteenth year of providing adult education classes and courses to the community at large on a wide variety of Judaic subjects. Programs are for Jews of all affiliations and levels of observance.

Following are some of the upcoming classes.

•"Chicken Soup for the Soul: Pathways to Inner Joy" is a fivepart course that will discuss the key to overcoming anxiety, anger, and depression, and finding genuine joy in life. The instructor is Rabbi Yisroel Levine. Classes meet on consecutive Tuesdays beginning May 6 at 8 p.m. There is a $25 course fee.

•"49 Steps to Personal Refinement" is a free weekly women's study group that will teach participants how to achieve a state of spiritual fulfillment and emotional refinement through the understanding of the 49 levels of growth.

The instructor is Rebbetzin Matty Bryski. Classes meet on Tuesdays starting May 6 at a home in Agoura Hills. Call (818) 991-0991 for directions.

•"Wednesday Lunch 'N Learn" with Rabbi Moshe Bryski will start on May 7 at 12:30 p.m. and will focus on the civil laws of Judaism. A lunch follows the one-hour class. There is no charge.

•"Beacons From The Rabbis Study" is a three-week lecture series by the dean of the academy, Rabbi Moshe D. Bryski on various. The series takes place on consecutive Wednesdays at 8 p.m. starting May 7. There is an $18 fee for the entire series.

•"Friday Women's Class with the Rabbi" meets at noon at a private home in Agoura Hills, starting May 2. This semester will discuss "The Broken Tablets: A Nation Recovers." The instructor is Rabbi Moshe D. Bryski.

The spring semester also includes a lecture series on Science, Medical Ethics and Traditional Matchmaking.
