Applaud LVUSD

I would like to applaud the Las Virgenes Unified School District, specifically, the school board members, Superintendent Donald Zimring, administrators, teachers (LVEA and LVCA, the teachers and classified unions) and staff for presenting the online parent survey. It clearly demonstrates the district's commitment to excellence, even during the current state budget crisis.

I commend the LVUSD for not resting on the laurels of high APIs to measure their success. This survey is thorough and expansive in its evaluation of everything from walking through the front door to how clean are the bathrooms. Additionally, the customization for elementary, middle and high schools shows their commitment to gathering as much detailed information as possible.

Obviously there will be opportunities for praise in a multitude of areas and the chance for introspection. They may uncover situations for which improvements are limited due to budgetary restraints but at least they want to know. The district may even find that out of desperation comes great inspiration.

Our school district is not cowering from the impact of the financial crisis and I appreciate that upward aspirations are continued. The goal of the LVUSD to shine a beacon of light during a critical funding time exemplifies what makes our district a destination school district.
