Warned about Agoura A recent letter to The Acorn asked, "What has become of Agoura?" The answer is there are too many people with conflicting visions of what Agoura "should be" and not enough who appreciate the precious nature of what we have, or should I say, had. Newcomers buy homes in Old Agoura because they are attracted to the rural atmosphere and then bellyache about flies and roosters crowing. We have an orthodox Jewish community who want to string up fishing line from light poles and defile our most pristine opens space but does not seem to comprehend that man does not live by vaccine alone. In one letter, Ira Cohen bemoaned the absence of a car dealership and there is constant pressure from developers of all stripe who don't give a damn what Agoura becomes but seek profits. We, who killed off Home Depot, are a dying bred. On Canwood you are now greeted by a statue that looks like an obese Michelin Tire man that was buckshot with chocolate chips. At Agoura Road and Palo Comadon, is a group of statues that could be called "a tribute to female subordination" or "families who emulate ducklings" but I don't know if it has a name or what its significance is. I'm sure some will say "good riddance" when they hear that I am building on several acres a couple of hours from town and plan to live in the rural serenity that once was Agoura. While "happiness is an inside job," if environment doesn't matter, monks would live in night clubs instead of monasteries. I view Calabasas as a prime example of development run amok and every day Agoura's demographics change to include more residents who would be just as happy in Encino. You never miss your water until your well runs dry and Agoura's well is hemorrhaging. I encourage newcomers to learn about Agoura's history and try and preserve as much of what distinguishes it from surrounding cities so that you don't wake up one day and ask "What became of Agoura?"
