Agoura homeowners beware Attention homeowners in Old Agoura. The value of your property is about to be significantly impacted with the proposed tightening of the city ordinance that controls the size of home that can be built on your property. Old Agoura already has one of the most stringent coverage laws in Los Angeles County, and this ordinance change will further tighten the coverage laws and devalue your property substantially. The city is pursuing this ordinance change with no effective notice to the homeowners of Old Agoura. The city intends to have a workshop on this subject at the planning commission meeting on April 17 and a hearing before the planning commission on May 1. The proposed changes were first published on the city website on April 4, but the agenda for the meetings on April 17 and May 1 are still not available. This effectively ensures that any comments that may be made in the workshop cannot be incorporated into the proposed ordinance change as there is insufficient time to incorporate valid comments into the proposed ordinance and have it further reviewed by all interested parties. Homeowners should demand public notice of the proposed changes be given to each homeowner by mail and by publication in the local newspapers prior to the workshop, and certainly before the planning commission meeting. There should be a clear explanation of the impact of these changes using accurate examples comparing the existing ordinance to the proposed ordinance. The economic impact of these changes should be calculated by qualified professionals and fully disclosed to the public. Do not allow the city, and a small group of activists, to negatively impact the value of your property unless a majority of homeowners approve of these changes. Please tear out this letter and mail it to the mayor of the city, John M. Edelston, at 30001 Ladyface Court, Agoura Hills, CA 91301, along with your comments. |
