Workshop to examine effects of prayer, meditation on mind

The Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will host Mark Robert Waldman as a guest speaker at the 10 a.m. service Sun., April 27 at the Goebel Senior Center, 13895 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. He will speak on "Neuroscience, religion and the atheist who prayed to God."

Waldman will also conduct a workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. the same day at the senior center. He will share the eight best things one can do to maintain a healthy brain and what happens neurologically when people pray and meditate. .

The morning service is free. Cost for the afternoon workshop is $30 and reservations are requested by calling (805) 4928751.

Waldman is an associate fellow at the Center for Spirituality and the Mind, University of Pennsylvania. He is co-author of the new book, "How God Can Change Your Brain," and has written 11 other books.
