Zonta Club gives scholarships to women

The Zonta Club of the Conejo Valley area awarded five $1,000 Women Helping Women Scholarships at the club's meeting on Feb. 19. The recipients were honored with dinner, a check and a yellow long-stemmed rose.

The scholarships are given to women who are 25 years of age or older and residents of Ventura County, Malibu, Westlake Village or Agoura Hills.

Awardees included breast cancer survivors, women from abusive marriages and an Armenian refugee who received political asylum in the U.S. Although most of the recipients are seeking nursing or medical careers, one is seeking a degree in psychology.

The club offers the scholarships every year. Applications for 2008 scholarships will be available at www.zontacv.org/ scholarships.htm#reentry.
