Conference to address gifted students

The Association for the Education of Gifted Underachieving Students will host its 2008 annual Conference in Los Angeles at the Hilton Universal City Hotel from April 4 to 6.

This national event, designed for educators, parents and professionals, will feature authors Temple Grandin, Jonathan Mooney and Samantha Abeel. More than 40 interactive seminars will address curriculum, advocacy, technology, and understanding gifted and learning disabled students.

The conference brings together the top people in the field of gifted underachievement and "twice-exceptionality" (gifted/ highly gifted students with learning differences).

Topics and discussions will cover such issues as nonverbal learning disabilities, ADD and ADHD, organizational challenges, auditory and visual processing problems, dysgraphia, acute perfectionism, Asperger's syndrome, autism, divergent learning styles, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, gender and adoption.

Bridges Academy, an independent school in Studio City, will host the conference. Bridges is a college preparatory school dedicated to educating twiceexceptional students in grades five to 12.
