Fundraiser will help women in Sierra Leone
Young women in that region are denied access to school, may fall victim to violent crime

Oak Park High School's Comedy Sportz team will hold a fundraiser to benefit the Women's Partnership for Justice and Peace in Sierra Leone at 7 p.m. Sat., March 8 in the Pavilion at Oak Park High School, 5701 E. Conifer St.

At a peace studies symposium in Thailand last year, Comedy Sportz coach Natasha Arnold met Gladys Gbappy-Brima, who talked about her organization, the Women's Partnership for Justice and Peace in Sierra Leone.

Young women in Sierra Leone are denied their right to an education because they are beaten when they come to school. Many of them turn to prostitution for survival and are victims of violent crimes. A donation of $50 will pay for tuition, a uniform, books and school supplies to send a girl in Sierra Leone to school for a year.

Tickets to the fundraiser are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
