New film festival invites entries from students

Young filmmakers are invited to submit their work to Spotlight the Arts' inaugural Student Film Festival.

The festival, chaired by Agoura High School graduate and filmmaker Sarah Nagy, will take place at the Louis B. Mayer Theater at the Motion Picture and Television Fund from Fri. to Sun, May 16 to 18.

The festival will open with a screening of David Lynch's "Eraserhead" and will culminate with an awards ceremony. Entries will be screened Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Top prize is a full scholarship to New York Film Academy's three-week Digital Film Summer Workshop at its Universal Studios campus, plus $500 cash. The scholarship is valued at $3,900. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the second- and third-place winners.

Deadline for submissions is Wed., April 16. There is no entry fee. Films may be documentary, animated or live-action, and may be in DVD or Beta format. Filmmakers from all local high schools are invited to participate.
