CHP to teach driver safety course
Participants also hear from accident investigators

The California Highway Patrol, West Valley Area will host a Start Smart driver safety course by appointment only beginning at 6 p.m. Tues., March 11 at the West Valley CHP, 5825 De Soto Ave., Woodland Hills.

CHP officers will discuss traffic collision avoidance techniques, collisioncausing factors, driver/parent responsibilities and seatbelt usage.

Also, officers who have investigated fatal collisions involving teens and family members who have lost loved ones in traffic accidents will give testimonies.

"The Start Smart program is one of our most vital and important services we offer to new and future drivers," said Capt. Webb of the CHP. "Saving lives is our number one priority and ensuring teenagers are informed and prepared for the responsibility of driving is one way we meet that goal."

Teen drivers are found at fault in 66 percent of all fatal collisions that they are involved in. The leading cause of death for Americans ages 15 to 20 is vehicle accidents.

For more information or to make an appointment, call Officer Leon Hines at (818) 8880980.
