Assisted Living Center Ready to Open

OakView, the new health center adjacent to University Village Thousand Oaks, is nearing completion and scheduled to open next month.

OakView at University Village, which will provide assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing, will be available to the public as well as the residents of University Village in Thousand Oaks.

The new continuing care retirement community opened last fall and is at 3415 Campus Drive in Thousand Oaks near the campus of California Lutheran University.

According to Sharon Friedman, director of marketing and admissions, the assisted living portion of the community will provide 24-hour assistance for seniors who need help with such daily tasks as bathing, dressing and medications.

Ventura County's newest assisted living center will have 48 apartments with varied floorplans, including studio and one and twobedroom apartments. Each includes a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave, large bathrooms with walk-in showers and pull-down seats, individual climate controls and an emergency call system on a pendant that residents can wear.

OakView will feature a memory support program for those with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.

OakView Skilled Nursing, the third component of the new health center, is scheduled to open later this spring. OakView Skilled Nursing will be a 48-bed skilled nursing center with 24hour, Medicarecertified professional staff.

"OakView at University Village will offer multi-level care within a wide range of services," Friedman said. "If an assisted living resident needs greater care at some point, we will be able to accommodate them in our skilled nursing facility or Alzheimer's center. Unlike other facilities, they won't need to leave OakView to obtain another level of care, which is an important consideration for many residents and their families."
