Food drive was a big success

After reading about a critical food shortage in our local food banks, I decided to put together my own food drive and left notes in my neighbor's mailboxes, about 60 of them. I asked them to pick up an extra bag of groceries when they were out shopping that week and leave them by their door for me to pick up. Today I dropped off a pickup load of groceries at the Ventura Food Share to a very grateful staff.

I would just like to take this opportunity to publicly thank my neighbors who participated in the food drive, and to suggest that others reading this do the same. The effort is minimal and the rewards are great. The food bank will even send a truck to pick up what you collect if you can't take it to them. You can reach the Ventura Food Share at (805) 9837100 to arrange a pickup.

Most of us are fortunate to live where we do and have the lifestyle that we have. Helping out with a bag of groceries is a relatively painless way of making a real difference in someone's life. I urge all of you to do what you can to help. Being hungry in America is a shame that we can all help erase. Kief Adler Oak Park
