Agoura Hills accepting applications for grants
City will award up to $20,000
By Stephanie Bertholdo bertholdo@theacorn.com

Community organizations and charity groups that serve the Agoura Hills community are invited to apply for monetary grants through the city's Community Outreach Grant Program, Greg Ramirez, city manager, said.

Depending on the grant requests, the city has set aside between $16,000 and $20,000 for the program, Ramirez said.

In the past, the city has subsidized a variety of groups including Many Mansions, Manna, Triunfo YMCA, Agoura High School's Music and theatre Boosters, Conejo Youth Employment Services and many others.

Mayor John Edelston said the program is designed to help organizations that operate on a shoestring budget.

"We're not intending to fund corporations or organizations with net profits greater than what we've been requested to contribute," Edelston said. "We look to fund community services that have benefits to the people who live in Agoura Hills."

According to Ramirez, the minimum request for funding is $250. While the city has not placed a cap on how much money an organization can request, in the past the city has granted up to $3,000 to an individual organization.

To be eligible for a grant, applicants must explain how their programs benefit the Agoura Hills community as a whole, Edelston said.

"The city of Agoura Hills has always recognized the value of these organizations and the fact that they strive to enhance the quality of life that exists in our community," Ramirez said.

Grant applications are available at Agoura Hills City Hall, located at 30001 Ladyface Court. Applications must be submitted no later than 3 p.m. on Thurs., April 3.
