Ackerman named head of Fernando Awards Foundation

The Fernando Award Foundation Inc. recently named Bruce Ackerman as new president of the 2008 board of directors.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the foundation honors community leaders who have demonstrated outstanding lifetime achievement in volunteerism and civic accomplishment in the San Fernando Valley.

In previous years, the foundation solicited community and civic organizations for the names of nominees, and then honored five finalists and selected a single recipient.

This year the foundation will host a Fernando Award 50th anniversary celebration, tentatively scheduled for Sat., Sept. 13.

Ackerman lives in West Hills and is the president/ CEO of the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley.

The new board of directors also includes vice presidents Lynn Rinker, Bud Brown, Tracy Rafter and Richard Leyden. Treasurer is Tom Soule and Gerry Keshka is the secretary.
