Steve Rosentsweig anounces his retirement from school district Steve Rosentsweig, principal at A.E. Wright Middle School in Calabasas, announced he will retire at the end of the school year, concluding a 40year career in education. `"It was really a hard decision," Rosentsweig said. "I love what I do." Rosentsweig said decided to retire so he and his wife, Nikki, could travel. Rosentsweig said when he began teaching at A.E. Wright there weren't any homes in the vicinity. "Science classes were held at the creek bed," he said. "The community has grown up around the school." Prior to joining A.E. Wright as principal, Rosentsweig served for 13 years as an assistant principal for curriculum and instruction at Calabasas High School. He also worked at Lindero Canyon Middle School. Last year, Rosentsweig captured the Association of California Administrators "Principal Award." Director of Elementary Education Rose Dunn nominated Rosentsweig for the award, and wrote on the application that he had been a contributing member of the district since it was formed. She also credited Rosentsweig for implementing effective school policies locally and at the state level. "Our greatest challenge is to be successful with all of our students, with their wide range of abilities and needs," Rosentsweig said. Rosentsweig's retirement was announced at the Jan. 22 Las Virgenes Unified School District Board of Education meeting. "It's not a matter of replacing Steve Rosentsweig because you can't," said Superintendent Donald Zimring. Board President Cindy Iser said Rosentsweig would be missed. |
