Local guide to Super Sunday
Whether you're tired of cleaning a super mess at your place or watching the big game on a notso-impressive TV screen, this is your chance to get out of the house and watch the final professional football game of the season- the Pro Bowl doesn't count- at a local sporting establishment. For those looking to escape the typical couchpotato Super Sunday when the New York Giants challenge the undefeated New England Patriots, we have compiled a list of some, although not all, of the finest local sports bars and restaurants to visit. And please remember, if you're going to drink, be responsible and designate a driver. No excuses, folks. Now, here are a few of our top choices: Bogie's Bar & Lounge 32001 Agoura Road Westlake Village (818) 889-2394 Located at the Westlake Village Inn, Bogie's Bar & Lounge is a classy place for a classic game. Not a sports bar, Bogie's is open for only one more Sunday this football season- and it plans to go out in style. With 14 high-definition LCD televisions, not including an 8foot screen, Bogie's can accommodate about 300 people, including 200 on the patio for those who prefer puffing on stogies. There are five outdoor television sets, while nine TV sets and the big screen will entertain guests who prefer sitting inside. "It'll be like viewing a game from the owner's box. It's like a private suite," said Chris Cuilty, the chief financial officer of the hotel and Bogie's Bar & Lounge. "The setting is going to be ideal." Bogie's will prepare food from a special Super Bowl menu, and it will fire up a barbecue on the patio. There will be plenty of sirloin chili, cornbread, hamburgers, hot dogs and carne asada tacos. Besides a full bar, six beers are on tap. As a bonus, the Budweiser promotion girls will entertain guests during the first half. Bogie's opens at 1 p.m. Sunday. Cuilty suggests arriving early. BJ's Restaurant 3955 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. Westlake Village (805) 497-9393 With a number of top-of-line TVs and a variety of tasty libations on tap, you can't go wrong with this chain restaurant. BJ's offers seven regular tap beers plus several seasonal or specialty beers. Each of these beers is unique and is difficult to find elsewhere. If you are not sure which one to try, get the sampler with four or seven different kinds of beer all at once. Since BJ's doesn't have a particular football team it supports, this can be a solid place to go with your friends to just enjoy the game in a neutral environment. Got kids? Bring the whole family in and watch the game while the youngsters enjoy the all types of dishes, from pasta to sandwiches to salads and the restaurant's famous dessert, Pizookie. Sagebrush Cantina 23527 Calabasas Road Calabasas (818) 222-6062 The Sagebrush Cantina may be famous for its delicious Mexican food and its giant, family welcoming interior, but the restaurant also knows how to serve quality margaritas while offering a fantastic sports atmosphere. If you prefer watching the Super Bowl with sizzling carnitas on your left and chips and dips on the right, the Sagebrush is definitely the way to go. With TV screens inside and outside, this could be the best place to hang out and get a tan after what seems like an endless parade of rainy days in SoCal. Zin Bistro Americana 32131 Lindero Canyon Road Westlake Village (818) 865-0095 As sister restaurant of MOZ Buddha Lounge in Agoura, Zin Bistro Americana offers some of the finest dining anywhere in the Conejo Valley on Super Sunday. The place isn't large- the owner expects about 25-30 people will fill up the bar- but it packs a punch for those looking to fill their belly with homemade Kobe beef sliders, Angus beef chili and/ or halibut fish tacos. There's only one big-screen TV, but the U-shaped setup allows everyone at the bar to get a great view of the action. Zin Bistro Americana opens at 11 a.m. for brunch.
