Volunteer Opportunities

Residents are invited to participate in any of the following volunteer opportunities in the area.

•Malibu Lagoon Museum/ Adamson House at Surfrider Beach offers docent training program from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. beginning Tues., Jan. 29 for six weeks.

Docents give tours of the site, work in the gift shop and handle special programs and social events. For information or to sign up, call Donna Lemkin at (310) 456-1517.

•Laubach Literacy of Ventura County will offer free workshops to train volunteers to tutor adults in English as a Second Language.

The workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., Feb. 2 and 9 at the First Assembly of God Church in Ventura; directions will be given upon registration.

The Laubach Literacy method will be demonstrated and taught during the workshops and will enable the new tutor to begin ESL tutoring right away and teach English to adults who are nonfluent English speakers. Neither teaching experience nor the ability to speak a foreign language is necessary. For more information or to register, call (805) 385-9584.

•The nonprofit Volunteer Organization of Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks has many opportunities available for volunteers. Volunteers are asked to contribute four hours a week. For information, call (805) 370-4716.
