Agoura Hills announces upcoming programs The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services announces upcoming events. Unless otherwise noted, all programs take place at the Agoura Hills Recreation Center, 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd. •A women's self-defense workshop will be taught 2 to 5 p.m. Sat., Jan. 26. Laura Cox, a second-degree black belt, will teach simple defensive techniques. The class costs $40. •Sy Rifkin will teach a defensive driving course for seniors 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Tues., Jan. 29. The class costs $12 for Senior Center registrants and $14 for nonSenior Center registrants. •A two-hour charm school workshop will take place Sat., Feb. 2 for ages 12 and older. Beverly Graham will teach modeling, posture, grace, speaking in a social context and appropriate behavior for professional and social situations. The workshop costs $55 plus a $10 lab fee. •Dance instruction workshops will be taught throughout the day Sat., Feb. 9. Swing and salsa instruction will be given from noon to 2 p.m. Swing, fox trot and cha cha are scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Preregistration is mandatory. •The Adult Coed Softball League and the Men's Softball League play Sundays and Saturdays, respectively, at Chumash and Forest Cove Parks in Agoura Hills. Coed league play will begin Sun., Feb. 10. Men's League play starts Sat., Feb. 9. •Applications are being accepted for "Agourapalooza: Teen Battle of the Bands" sponsored by Agoura Music. Demos are necessary, and all bands must apply in person. The deadline to submit applications is 4 p.m. Fri., Feb. 1. The concert will be 7 to 11 p.m. Fri., Feb. 29. Each band will get 45 minutes to set up, perform and break down their sets. •The "Loungin' After Dark" teen dance and poker tournament will begin 3:30 p.m. Fri., Feb. 15. The event is open to teens ages 11 to 14. There is a $9 fee for admission. Cost is $3 for participants only attending the tournament. Students must bring school I.D., and refreshments will be available for purchase. •Two teen ski and snowboard trips to Mountain High Ski Resort are planned. Groups will leave 6 a.m. and return 7 p.m. on Mon., Feb. 18 and Fri., March 21. The cost is $52 for ages 11 and 12, $70 for ages 13 through 17. Prices include bus transportation and an all-day lift ticket. Participants must bring their own ski equipment. Lessons are available at the resort for an additional $30. •A "People with Arthritis Can Exercise" program will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays. The program is for adults ages 50 and over with rheumatic disease and related manifestations. The class includes accommodations for individual limitations and does not encourage activities that might aggravate arthritis symptoms. For more information on any program, call (818) 597-7361. |
