Jewish academy announces courses The Conejo Jewish Academy will be starting its winter semester on Wed., Jan. 16 at 30345 Canwood St., Agoura Hills. The academy is in its 14th year of providing adult education classes to the community on a variety of Judaic subjects. The following is a short listing of courses. All programs are open to all; no affiliation or membership is necessary. For a complete list of programs or registration, visit www.jewishacademy.com or call (818) 991-0991. •"Israel, The Land & The Spirit" is a threeweek course beginning 8 p.m. Wed., Jan. 16 that will examine Israel in the modern era and the challenges it faces today. Topics to be discussed will include: Whose Land Is it Anyway?, The Peace Process, Religion and State, Israel and the Diaspora. Rabbi Moshe Bryski is the instructor and there is a $25 fee. •"Wednesday Lunch 'N Learn" with Bryski will start at 12:30 p.m. Wed., Jan. 30 and will focus on "The Civil Laws." There is no fee and a dairy lunch follows the one-hour class. •"Reflections on Jewish Faith, Reason and Experience" is a sixpart series on the 13 Principles of Faith as formulated by Maimonides that allow one to acquire and understand the full range of Jewish thought and human experience. This course will meet on consecutive Tuesdays at 8 p.m. starting Feb. 5. Rabbi Yisroel Levine will instruct and there is a $60 fee for the entire course. •"The 7 Habits of Meaningful Jewish Living" is a seven-part series on balancing career, home and spirituality, and finding purpose. It meets 8 p.m. beginning Thurs., Jan. 31. Rabbi Shlomo Bistritzky is the teacher and the fee is $18. •"Overcoming Conflict in the Home" is a two-part workshop that will help spouses be more aware of unconscious patterns and memories which prohibit listening, compromising, accepting and appreciating their partner. The first session is "Improving Your Marriage Now!" and the second session is "Improving ParentChild and Sibling Relationships." Workshop leaders are Sarah and Chanon Bloch, experienced psychotherapists. The workshops meet at 8 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 at the Chabad Center in Westlake Village, 2524 Townsgate Road. The fee is $10 per person for both sessions. •"The Friday Women's Torah Study Group" will discuss the Torah story of the golden calf beginning Fri., Jan. 18 at noon. Bryski is the instructor and the group is open to all women. There are no fees. The winter semester will include a lecture series featuring scholars and lecturers including Dennis Prager, Nonie Darwish, Doron Kornbluth, and Kabbalist Rav Yitzchak Ginsburg. |
