Triunfo YMCA launches Model United Nations
Teamwork, public speaking, leadership and negotiation skills are developed

Teens in sixth through ninth grade are invited to become part of the Triunfo YMCA's Model United Nations program for 2008.

The first meeting will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 17 at the YMCA facility at Sumac Elemen tary School, 6050 N. Calmfield Ave., Agoura Hills. Meetings will be held more frequently as the teens prepare for the statewide conferences.

Teens in the program represent a country and present the country's issues at the two statewide conferences in March and May. More than 600 teens across the state participate.

"Kids learn teamwork, public speaking and leadership and negotiation skills," said Veronica Rodarte, Triunfo YMCA program director. "This program is tailored to inspire middle school age teens to learn about world topics concerning us today. It's an exciting program designed for young teens to have fun, meet friends and create lasting memories while broadening their horizons."

The Triunfo YMCA serves Westlake Village, Agoura Hills and Oak Park.
