Viewpoint newspaper wins big

The Patriot, the student newspaper of Viewpoint School in Calabasas, received a Gold Medalist Critique from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, a program affiliated with the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University.The award recognizes superior achievement.

"Receiving a Gold Medalist Critique was quite an achievement since this was our first time entering the competition," said Laurie Allen, Viewpoint journalism teacher.

The Patriot also received national recognition when its editor, Jacob Combs, was awarded an honorable mention in the 2007 "Story of the Year" competition of the National Scholastic Press Association.
