School district seeks candidates for board

The Las Virgenes Unified School District is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the board of education vacancy left by Terilyn Finders, who recently resigned two years into her fouryear term. The provisional post will run from Jan., 2008 through Nov., 2009.

According to Superintendent Donald Zimring, candidates interested in the volunteer position must be 18 years of age, a registered voter, and a resident within the school boundaries.

Candidates should be able to commit to three to five meetings per month, including daytime meetings, be familiar with current public education issues, and have prior experience serving on or reporting to a government board, Zimring said. Knowledge in areas of finance and budget will also be helpful qualifications.

Interested applicants must submit a letter of interest and include contact information, reasons for applying, confirmation of legal and other qualifications, a resume or curriculum vitae, and other background information the candidate wants included for consideration.

Once applications have been received, a school board committe will review all materials for legal compliance, and the will conduct

interviews of qualified applicants at 6 p.m. on Thurs., Jan. 8 at the school district office in Calabasas. The board will vote on the provisional appointment no later than Jan. 20, 2009, and the appointee will be seated immediately, Zimring said.
