Stressed out at the post office I have lived in Agoura Hills for over 30 years. Am I the only person that stresses out every time I have to go to the Agoura Hills post office? On Dec. 15 I heard on the news that this is the busiest day of the year for going to the post office. I had a package to mail out of state, so I decided to leave and get to the post office by 8:45 a.m., thinking I would beat the crowds. As I pulled into the driveway of the parking lot I knew better. Wanting to get my package mailed, I decided to get into the outside line and wait with the other 20 people standing in line due to the fact that the post office desks don't open until 9 a.m. on the busiest day of the year. When the door finally opened, four post office employees were there. One complained that his tape machine had not been replenished since Saturday, so he would have to close his station for at least five minutes before reopening his counter. Another employee chose to clean up and replenish his counter. He never opened the whole time I was there. The third employee was the only one helping the crowd, which now was out the door. The fourth was standing there smiling, asking if anyone had only mail to pick up. Here's my question. Why, at the busiest time of the year, can't all the windows be opened like at Thousand Oaks, Calabasas and Woodland Hills post offices? This is Agoura Hills. I thought we were as sophisticated as our surrounding communities. Linda Jorgensen Agoura Hills |
