Bistrow named citizen of the month

The board of directors of Las Virgenes Municipal Water District has honored Ginger Bistrow, a fourth-grade teacher at Sumac Elementary School in Agoura Hills, as its December Citizen of the Month.

Bistrow was recognized for her commitment to water conservation as part of the education she shares with her students.

For more than 10 years she has taught the importance of conservation and the stewardship of water resources.

Bistrow has worked with other faculty members to build and sustain participation in the district's annual water awareness poster contest to nearly 100 percent among Sumac students.

"The values children learn not only last a lifetime, but those same students are often the agents for changing water-use habits among their families and friends at a time when water conservation is critically needed," said Las Virgenes Municipal Water District's director of resource conservation and public outreach Jimmie Cho.

LVMWD serves approximately 65,000 residents in the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Westlake Village and surrounding unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
