Iceland named Oak Park board president
      Jan Iceland will serve as president of the Oak Park Unified School District Board of Education for 2009 after being named to the post by fellow board members at their annual reorganization meeting earlier this month. Iceland takes over from Cindy Vinson. The board selected Mary Rees as the vice president.

      In last week's story about the Agoura Hills rehabilitation home, Pete Petersons did not say that Charles Knupp had only been sober for three months. What Petersons said is that people who choose to stay in a residential rehab house must first be sober or drug-free for three months.

      The appointment of Calabasas resident Alex Soteras to the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board appears to have been a short lived one. Although Soteras says he is still a member of the nine-member panel, the governor's office is saying he's been out since November.

LVMWD awards efficient washers
      Las Virgenes Municipal Water District has announced a temporary increase in its rebate program for customers who purchase qualifying high-efficiency clothes washers. The new rebate is $300. The previous rebate was $100. "This is a limited-time program funded by a water-conservation grant," said Dr. Randal Orton, resource conservation manager for the district.

      The board of directors of Las Virgenes Municipal Water District has honored Ginger Bistrow, a fourth-grade teacher at Sumac Elementary School in Agoura Hills, as its December Citizen of the Month. Bistrow was recognized for her commitment to water conservation as part of the education she shares with her students.
