Superintendent wants students prepared for the future
      Superintendent Donald Zimring and the board of education for the Las Virgenes Unified School District want to put theory into practice when it comes to preparing students for the future. The district's mission is to help students achieve their potential through personalized instruction, enabling them to grow into responsible citizens, Zimring said.

      Principal Andi Mallen of Oak Park High School has announced that 10 seniors have been picked as Commended Students in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program.

St. Jude students compete in Lego League challenge
      St. Jude School's FLL Roboteers competed in the First Lego League Qualifying Tournament at Magic Mountain last month. The team was one of the top half of teams and qualified for the Southern California FLL Championship Tournament on Dec. 6 at Legoland.

Mayor takes a hike to encourage walking

Calabasas High to give tours
      Parents of prospective Calabasas High School students are invited to take a tour of the West Mulholland Highway campus. Tours will be conducted Fridays at 9 a.m. Foss said parents will be able to visit classrooms, sports and art facilities, and areas on the campus where research is conducted.

Recycle trees
      Oak Park High School will be recycling Christmas trees beginning at 9 a.m. Sat., Dec. 27, Sun., Dec. 28 and Sat., Jan. 3. Orders are due by Thurs., Dec. 18. Students will pick up and recycle Christmas trees for a fee of $25. The money will go toward the school's safe and sober Grad Nite.
