Victim ignored

Your Nov. 20 editorial was offensive, repugnant and insensitive. If your own son and only child was taken from you, would you be so forgiving towards the accomplices involved?

The parental whining and hand-wringing related to crimes committed by well-to-do local youth in this area is similarly repellent. The elder Hein says in defense of his miscreant son that his "only crime" was consuming alcohol at age 16 and using illegal drugs and brawling. What an utterly blameless, charming youth.

Records also indicate he and his fellow ruffians intimidated and robbed a female motorist. Oops! Did that get overlooked? Is that another excusable crime? What if that female had been your daughter, wife or mother?

Who deserves the sympathy vote? The victim's family. Please, Acorn, never forget that Mr. Hein still has a son, incarcerated or not. For the Farris family and other families of murdered children, there will never be enough solace. Gloria Glasser Cornell
