Local athletes make college choices official

A few of the area's top high school athletes signed their National Letters of Intent this week.

Oak Park High softball standout pitcher Julia Rice stayed true to her verbal commitment and signed with Purdue University of the Big Ten Conference.

The three-time team MVP led Oak Park to Tri-Valley League titles during her freshman and junior seasons under the direction of head coach Roger Newell. Rice earned second-team all-state honors as a junior.

Rice already owns Oak Park career records for perfect games (two), shutouts (30), no-hitters (three), one-hitters (12) and strikeouts (659).

Calabasas shortstop Adam Landecker signed with USC, while his teammate, center fielder Jordan Yallen, has committed to Gonzaga University. Landecker is the Coyotes' team captain.
