Oaks Christian on a mission to rewrite CIF-SS record book

      During the past half decade, Oaks Christian's talent on the gridiron has been in a league of its own, especially in the postseason. The Lions have won five straight CIF-Southern Section football championships, a Southern Section record shared with Paraclete of Lancaster, which claimed five straight titles from 1997-2001.

      On Friday night, four Marmonte League football teams begin their pursuit of a CIFSouthern Section Northern Division championship. League title winner Moorpark High, the No. 2 overall seed in the Northern Division, opens at home against Camarillo. Patriots suffer semifinal setback
      RISE ABOVE— Viewpoint's Angelica Luczak goes for a block Tuesday night against Whittier Christian in the CIF-SS Division IV-AA semifinals. VHS, champions of the Liberty League, lost in five games and finished the season with a 23-2 record.

Local athletes make college choices official
      A few of the area's top high school athletes signed their National Letters of Intent this week. Oak Park High softball standout pitcher Julia Rice stayed true to her verbal commitment and signed with Purdue University of the Big Ten Conference.

Calabasas tennis team bounced, VHS advances
      OUSTED— Calabasas High's Sabrina Man-Son-Hing crouches down to return a shot during Tuesday's CIF-Southern Section Division I playoff match against Palos Verdes. CHS lost, 12-6. In other action Tuesday, the top-seeded Viewpoint girls' tennis squad upended Savanna 14-4 to advance to the Division V semifinals today at 2 p.m. at Warner Tennis Center.
