Bring back God There has recently been no shortage of argument concerning the outcome of the Proposition 8 vote. A recent letter to the editor of this paper commented that we should leave "religion" out of this matter. This view has become increasingly popular in many areas of society that deal with the subject of morality. This view is indicative of the postmodern worldview that is now prevalent in our society, and it is the voice of many in this debate. It is the voice that says there is no absolute truth in this world; therefore, don't speak to us about morals and what is right and wrong; if it feels good and right to me then it must be right. This worldview trivializes and disparages the commandments of the Bible and the JudeoChristian values this country was founded on. How have we benefited from keeping God out of societal matters? Have the last few decades not been characterized by a decreased quality of life, a dramatic rise in violence (particularly among school children), an increase in divorce rates and the breakdown of the family, moral decay and increasing substance abuse? No longer are we one nation under God, but, as some have said, we are a Prozac Nation. Whether we like it or not, these are absolute truths, and these outcomes are revealed in a society that kicks God out of his place in creation. William Arnold Woodland Hills |
