Agoura High club to remember Sudan victims Agoura High School's End World Wide Genocide Club will host a candlelighting ceremony from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tues., Nov. 18 in the school's main quad, 38545 Driver Ave. The service will be in memory of those who have died in the civil wars in Sudan for the last 20 years. Those in attendance may purchase candles for $1 and light them together when darkness falls. A guest speaker from Jewish World Watch will speak about the issues related to the war. A short documentary will be shown. Club members will host a bake sale and have a coloring booth for children at the event. Children can decorate potholders, which the club will mail to Sudan to ensure that the women will not burn their hands on their new solar cookers. The club has worked to raise awareness and funds on the campus by selling Save Darfur Tshirts, chapsticks, pins and bumper stickers. Last year the club raised $1,000 for Doctors Without Borders. The event and the club are not religiously affiliated. |
