Leave religion out of it

I don't understand why so many of the people wanting to pass Proposition 8 make this a religious issue. This is a basic human's right issue which people of the United State have fought hard to preserve. Some Americans have died fighting to give us the freedom to marry whom we choose. If these freedoms weren't in place, I would not have been able to marry my husband because of our different cultural backgrounds.

In addition, some people for Proposition 8 have made comments that gay couples do not make good parents, which is ludicrous. I have personally seen heterosexual parents destroy their children's lives with drugs, divorce, infidelity and more right here in our own town.

My family has firsthand experience with both heterosexual and gay parents. We have a deadbeat dad that never provides any child support, love or good morals to his children, while we also have a dad that is gay but is loving and supportive of his children. I personally will take the gay dad over the deadbeat dad any day.

If we are really going to make this a religious issue, then what I will tell my children is that religion should unite people. It should teach tolerance of different beliefs, cultures, sexual orientation. It should not sit on a corner making false accusations and pointing the finger at another human because they are different. Pam Williams Agoura Hills
