Nominations for Gibbs award

By Joann Groff joann@theacorn.com

The members of the Calabasas Environmental Commission are looking for the next Carl Gibbs Environmental Excellence Award honoree.

The award, which symbolizes commitment to California's environment, recognizes the voluntary activities of individuals, businesses, municipalities, government agencies and other organizations that work to benefit the environment.

Carl Gibbs, who died in February 2006, was a prominent Calabasas environmental commissioner and one of the city's founders.

When reviewing the nominees, the commission takes into account criteria such as improvement to the environment, creativity in technology or approach, model achievements, a commitment to the public's best interests and the involvement of the community, employees or government officials.

Commissioners look at projects in Calabasas and in the state that result in cleaner air and water, less waste, less traffic or the conservation of energy and natural resources.

Nomination forms are due by Nov. 28 and are available at www.cityofcalabasas.com.

The 2008 award winner will be announced at the city of Calabasas Environmental Commission meeting Jan. 6, 2009, at city hall.
