Is anybody else as outraged as I am when they see the almost comical gas prices posted at the Exxon gas station at the corner of Parkway Calabasas and the 101 Freeway? I don't even live in Calabasas; however, I do find myself at The Commons quite frequently and have to pass that gas station every trip home. More ... I have utmost respect for the Agoura Animal Shelter and all of the wonderful work they do to save the lives of animals. I usually enjoy seeing the "Pet of the Week" and reading the brief description about them. However, I was shocked and disappointed to see a black cat with a Halloweenlike expression offered for adoption two weeks before Halloween. More ... Recently, we have seen a few articles in The Acorn about the Agoura Animal Shelter. We want to say that the Agoura Animal Shelter is a wonderful organization of volunteer professionals and staff. Recently we adopted a 10yearold colliemix named Shasta from the shelter who has been a welcome addition to our family. More ... Our area seems to be very popular with bicyclers. They seem to be everywhere, either alone or in groups, with their helmets and colorful tights. They seem so vulnerable, trying to stay within their narrow bicycle lanes with automobiles and trucks swiftly passing by. More ... Everybody is entitled to post their political position in the form of signage but this election season has seen the corrugated plastic run rampant and out of control. On Kanan Road between Smoketree and Lindero Canyon, I counted 104 political signs on community property. More ... Our country may be suffering from an economic downturn, but you'd never know it from the Pancakes for Parkinson's breakfast in Westlake Village on Oct. 18. Not only did several local businesses and individuals graciously donate their time, goods and services, but we had over 100 people attend, which was a huge success. More ... Almost every day I read or hear about a disastrous water shortage that is plaguing Southern California and that we probably will need to ration water and change our habits in the fear that there will not be enough water to go around. More ... Recently I read in the L.A. Times where a Chinese official had his death sentence suspended to life imprisonment for accepting bribes during the construction phase of the Chinese Olympics. More ... With extreme pleasure and no surprise the Oak Park Unified School District came in first in the API scores for Ventura County and I send my sincere compliments to the entire district.
