WENDY PIERRO/Acorn Newspapers ESCAPE PLAN—Agoura High's Bryce Majdick tries to outrun Newbury Park defender Chris Markey during the Panthers' victory. Simi Valley (2-5) at Westlake (5-2)
Outlook: Left for dead following an 05 start to their season, the Simi Valley Pioneers are right back in the middle of the postseason push following wins over Agoura and Calabasas.
Tonight, however, things get a little tougher for Simi Valley.
Westlake, ranked No. 6 in the latest CIF-Southern Section coaches' poll, is averaging a league-best 39.5 points per game.
The Warriors have scored 40 points or more on four occasions, including a season-high 50 points in last weekend's rout of Royal.
A victory tonight means WHS head coach Jim Benkert ties former St. Bonaventure head coach Jon Mack for first place on Ventura County's all-time win list.
Agoura (3-4) at Moorpark (6-1)
Outlook: A once-promising season is quickly slipping away from the Agoura Chargers.
Losers of three straight contests, AHS can climb back into the playoff picture with a win at Moorpark, which sits alone atop the Marmonte League standings.
But it will not be easy.
Moorpark's defense is a brick wall, as Thousand Oaks can attest, and the Musketeers don't make many mental mistakes, either.
Both teams have injury concerns, the biggest of which may be AHS quarterback Justin Arias, who missed last weekend's loss at Newbury Park after suffering a concussion in Week 6 against Simi Valley. Arias is probable to start against Moorpark.
