Battle of the Triunfo candidates
In the 24 years that Mr. Stark has served on the Triunfo Sanitation District (TSD) board he has repeatedly opposed any attempts to allow ratepayers to elect the board's five members. Now, one week before the election, he is suddenly supporting an all-elected board, though with the proviso that the members be elected from districts.

Measure R pros and cons
I am a student at Oak Park High School. Our teachers are really great but the schools deserve to be fixed. It would really help us because we don't want the schools to fall down. We really need air conditioning in the gym. We have two fans and they hardly help at all.

Yes on Measure R
Measure R is a reasonable measure that will enable necessary repairs for our schools. Thirty years have passed and Oak Park is the only unified school district in Ventura County that has not passed a facilities bond for repairs. Every other district has passed one.

No on Measure R
Oak Park's Tony Knight has some nerve to accept a raise when all other local superintendents waived theirs. His salary is comparable to the pay of much larger districts and on top of that he gets a raise in his gas allowance.

A farewell message from Todd Haines
It has been both my pleasure and honor to serve the people of Oak Park since 1995. As my final term comes to an end, I wish to thank the many people who have made my service as a council person so rewarding.

Biased teacher
My freshman at Agoura High has been inundated by his teacher's political views since the beginning of this school year. Yesterday, one of his teachers took a public vote and my son was one of only two who raised their hands in favor of McCain. This followed an anti-Bush rant by this same teacher.

Signing off
What is happening to the level of civility in our town? Yesterday I put an Obama/ Biden sign on my lawn and this morning it had been stolen. The sign, which cost me $10, was my expression of support for the candidate of my choice. I haven't seen any local McCain/ Palin signs absent from the yards of my neighbors who put them out.

Prop. 8 bigotry
I really feel for all you bigots who support Prop 8. You're really between a rock and a hard place. If you support this proposition on political grounds, you lose because our country was founded on the concept that "all men are created equal.

Union action was inappropriate
With the current budget crisis in the state of California affecting our schools and quality of education, I am astounded that the California Teacher's Association would donate $1.25 million to the "No on Prop 8" campaign.

Yes on Prop. 4
Currently in California, a girl under the age of 18 can legally obtain an abortion without the knowledge or consent of her parents. However, if the following day she wishes to get her ears pierced or needs an aspirin at school, parental consent is required.

Calleguas board endorsement
You learn much about a person when you sit on political bodies with them. Jeff Borenstein was on the board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, which supplies water to over 18 million people in our area. His temperament and ability to understand and shape policy has been an asset to us all.
