      Bend, but don't break. That's the rallying cry this week for Oak Park High's football team as it prepares to host undefeated Santa Clara and one of the top running backs in the nation—senior Cierre Wood. Wood, a Notre Dame commit, has already carried the ball 84 times for 1,117 yards (13 yards per carry) and 15 touchdowns this season.

      Westlake defense: The Warriors held Newbury Park's vaunted rushing attack to 54 yards on 20 attempts during a 35-12 home win in Week 6. Cody Skene, RB/DB, Oak Park: The senior running back scored a pair of second-half touchdowns to lift OPHS to a 21-14 come-from-behind victory over Carpinteria. He finished with 82 yards on 17 carries.

Shiney a star for Oak Park High

      For many years, all Matt Shiney wanted was to be on the Oak Park High varsity boys' cross country team. Ever since he was in fourth grade, Shiney and a couple of his friends would run trails in Oak Park, Agoura and Westlake. During his first two years at OPHS, Shiney ran on the frosh/soph and junior varsity teams.

Spadea claims Challenger title

      In what may go down as the first victory moonwalk dance in Challenger history, rapping tennis player Vincent Spadea made his way to the net just that way after the final point of his 7-6 (5), 6-4 win over unseeded Sam Warburg on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz of Calabasas USTA $50,000 Pro Challenger at the Calabasas Tennis and Swim Center.

Oaks Christian boys' water polo team still finding success despite this being a 'rebuilding year'

      This season the Oaks Christian boys' water polo team has played well enough to earn a 126 overall record and a 4-1 mark in the Tri-Valley League. The Lions are ranked 10th in the CIF-Southern Section Division IV coaches' poll.
